Bob, The hacked driver doesn't affect bootability directly: A CD-ROM used as a boot disk gets its driver during the boot process from a "hidden" partition written on itself. Having the hacked driver around while preparing the bootable CD-ROM with Toast can--and usually does--corrupt this partition. The most reliable way to burn a bootable disk is to create an image file of a device copy and burn from that, not from the attached [aka mounted] volume. Check the documentation of both Toast and Apple's Disk Copy utility on creating a device copy image file. HTH, paul -- Paul F.
