Alan, Hacking the Apple CD/DVD extension with ResEdit does work.
I did it last night and I was able to get my Umax s900, 9.1, to recognize a Mats CR-508 CDROM drive that was not apple native. Bill, the link is here: http://www.resexcellence.com/hack_html_99/12-21-98.shtml I've had that problem with the "cache" warning with my original S900 cdrom when i upgraded the machine to OS 8.x and then I got it to go away when I bought an apple 12x scsi drive and got rid of the original S900 drive.
