Several years ago I was needing to choose CD-R brands for archiving film scans.

The all-around best was, and still is if I am not mistaken, is the Mitsui Gold.

Verbatim's DataLifePlus came in second with their proprietory Azo Blue
technology.
Then there are the many other brands that probably come out of the same factory
with the least stable greenish dye color.

I went with Verbatim as the best compromise between cost and long term
stability.
A friend went with several hundred bulk order of Mistuis, in full-sized jewel
cases, which cost him a fortune.

Not sure if this same reasoning would apply to DVD discs.
