the CD boots up fine, so i am good there. The solution is to find a 9.1 installer and use os9 helper to get to 9.2, or to find an apple rommed HD and put it in my machine? I guess I am off to find a 9.1 disk.....thanks all.

If you have a 'stock' s900, you are going to run into the problem of the
Western Digital drive that is not compatible with Apple Drive Setup.
The OS installer checks the drive first, and that's what you are running up
against.
(I installed 9 on a Seagate UW SCSI drive that is run by a UW PCI card.)

And then there is the Matshita CD drive, which also is not Apple compatible and
requires a third-party driver - if you are able to boot from the Apple
installation disk, then that is one less thing for your to deal with.
