Mike, It sounds like you're doing it right but obviously something's not meshing.
Here's WD's page on jumpers in case something else here may help. http://support.wdc.com/techinfo/general/jumpers.asp Also, if the only ide drive being used, do you have the ide cable plugged into the bus furthest away from the pci mounting bracket? That is the primary bus and what you want. It is possible you may need a newer ATA100 cable. If it's the only drive present again, you might just try it as Master if yours is different than the page description. As someone who does a lot of testing using my ATA/66 card, for some reason, some drives refuse to work when using the ATA/66 cable on the ATA/66 card, but will work with ATA/100 while connected to the same card.
