I actually had some issues with the a10 version, but 2.25 (I think)
worked fine for a direct install of 10.2, then used the "combo updater"
from Apple to get to 10.2.8. I've got an S900 with XLR8 CarrierZIF
w/g3-400 running @ 450Mhz.

XPF 3.0a10 gives you some nice extra benefits over 2.2.5. For one thing, it allows Panther to be installed on an S900 (I have an S900 with PowerLogix g3/500). If OP is going to buy OS X, he might as well buy Panther now. Also, XPF 3 can be run from either OS 9 or OS x; can enable booting from an external FireWire or a CD; can let you boot from OS X to OS 9; has a nicer, clearer interface. My dos centavos.
