Couple of (simple) things to try first before playing component musical chairs.

Unplug and reconnect the drive ribbon cables.
(IDE or SCSI, whichever you have in your s900.)
I've come across slightly loose connections that prevented the startup
drive from functioning.

Zap the PRAM several times in a row on a reboot.

Either swap in a different PRAM battery or test the one that's in the
offending unit.
Radio Shack in our town stocks them.
Maybe one in your area has them as well if you need to get one in a hurry.

Reset the CUDA (is that the proper jargon ?).

Make sure that the 3.3V plug from the power supply is still connected to the motherboard. That one had me clawing my eyes out for days. The machine powered up, but the MB seemed dead, but it would boot perfectly with a 604/150 installed but nothing more recent. Finally found that I'd pulled the 3.3V plug loose. That's the one with three orange and three black wires.
