Here's the situation - I have an S900, with Sonnet G4/450, running 9.2.2
on a 3Gb SCSI drive. 320Mb RAM. Original Matshita CD-ROM.
Good OS X disk (I recently used it on another computer). Installing
10.2.2 onto a Maxtor 20G IDE drive connected to an Ultratek66 in Slot A.
ixMicro Twin Turbo video card in slot F. These all worked fine before install.
I ran XPostFacto 2.2.5 and it appeared to run normally, giving the big-apple boot
screen, then the verbose status checks. The install hung on "Still waiting for
boot device". I looked up this error online and concluded that the original Matshita
drive was too old. I swapped out the CD drive with some spares in uncertain
condition until I gave up and decided to try booting back into 9.2 by unplugging
the destination IDE drive. I think that was my mistake.
Now I am stuck in limbo - or what I am interpreting to be the limbo of the BIOS not
knowing which drive to boot off of. Neither zapping PRAM, nor resetting CUDA
(30 sec hold) seem to have any effect. I always boot to grey screen.
I tried booting off the OS 9 disk, but Command-opt-shift-del doesn't get any
response from the CD drive.
SCSI Termination could be my problem, and I'll check that next. Maybe the CD drive
wasn't even the problem. Have any of you gotten OSX working off the Matshita drive?
But if termination is not the problem, how can i get out of this pickle?
In general is it possible to install a pre-loaded OSX drive into my S900 and expect it to
work? (if so, I shoulda done that!) FYI, I also have an original G4 running Jaguar,
and a 9600/NewerG3400, if swapping capability can help here.
Ever-grateful for any tidbittles of advice... rik
