I would agree on a good used laser being a great investment. I picked up a LaserWriter Pro 630 on ebay a few years ago, it's connected via AppleTalk over Ethernet, and all of the Macs and PC's in my house print to it. It replaced an HP laserjet that I got for free, then repaired and converted to an Apple LaserWriter Plus.
