Excellent tips Dave - and I have followed those rules. Upon hookup, I plug
the power in on the FW drive (and make sure it's turned off), hook up the FW
cable, then turn on the drive. Upon disconnect, I eject the FW drive from
the desktop (command-E), turn the drive off, and then disconnect the FW
cable.

The drive was formatted HFS+ originally, and I made sure that I selected
HFS+ when attempting to reformat.

So, here is an update:

I was mistaken on the Panther issue. One of the techs told me Panther was
installed at the school, but was wrong ... all the computers have OS 10.2.8,
so that's not the problem after all.

I took my FW drive in a third time (after it came up with the "damaged info"
message at home yet again), but this time the drive would not even mount
there. Then I decided to try the USB interface ... voila, the drive could be
seen, but then this is now the same problem that I've been experiencing at
home.

At this point, I'm suspecting the FW bridge (yet again). This OWC Mercury
Elite is the >THIRD< drive in just over a year ... I had to send two back
because of faulty FW bridges. The tech person told me if this happened
again, I'd be out of luck for warranty replacement. I don't know if they can
legally do that, but it's not worth the time and shipping charges I've
incurred to deal with this anymore. At this point, I'll just use the drive's
USB2 capabilities (now that I have OSX working on my S900 - see follow up
post) and pick up another FW drive locally.

If I can ever get the FW to mount again, I will attempt to re-flash the
Oxford firmware with OWC's update and see if that fixes the problem.

Any other ideas?
