Hi, me again. What's the collective view (unconscious or not) on whether I should keep or ditch the C500? Here's my thinking.
1) We do not need two computers running simultaneously. 2) The blue & white G3 (400 mhz rev. 2; confirmed this yesterday) is at least somewhat newer than the C500, rather faster, has much more memory capacity (though at 128, it's under the C500's 144), has comparable video (both have Rage128 cards), and apparently could even go to some version of OS X if I cared to do that (which I don't currently). 3) I can move the 20g internal HD from the C500 to the G3 no problem, apparently, which I believe simplifies the issue of getting my data from the one to the other. The G3 seems to be able to take two internal HDs so I could just add this one to what's there. (By the way, how would it know which is the boot disc?) 4) I can plug the C500's keyboard into the 1 ADB port on the G3 and keep using it and my current mouse, no problem. The G3's USB keyboard I can deal with some other way I guess. 5) I am not so sure of how to deal with the serial printer issue (is there a serial-to-USB adapter around?), let alone any SCSI peripherals lurking in the background, like the scanner in the attic. 6) I can part out the C500 to a degree...well, I would think the G3 Mactell/Powerlogix card, at least, and maybe the Rage128 video card and the Ethernet card too. 7) Or is there just not enough residual cash in the C500 even as it stands to try parting it out, let alone selling it as is? I still have all the old bits of it that I could put back (the original HD, the original cache stick, and both the 180 and the 240 processors). Does any of this make sense? Am I actually on the right track here (perish the thought)? -- Bill Spencer Light travels faster than sound.
