Hi John,

As others have stated, it can work quite well. Just a few additional notes:

1) Be sure the face plate is for a 3.5" bay, not 5.25".

2) The jack for the power supply on the Zip drive is the same as the jack on
a floppy drive; the adapter to a full size power supply plug is a reasonably
standard item in most computer stores.

3) The drive may be bootable--which makes for a very useful alternative in
time of need. I have found no way to identify whether this is possible in
advance except to try it. Be aware that those drives that are not bootable
are very fussy about having disks inserted at startup and will freeze the
machine. The canonical "mouse down at startup chime" to eject all removable
disks at startup doesn't always work. Instead it is more effective to press
and hold the eject button on the front of the drive immediately after
beginning a cold boot; this will allow power to the eject relay before the
boot process interferes. You really don't want to need to use the mechanical
eject since it is accessed from the rear of the drive, not from the face as
in most floppy or optical drives :( Also, Zip disks set up as boot disks on
an IDE class bus will not start up on a SCSI bus, and vice versa, although
they will mount with no problem.

HTH,

paul
