Bill, The folder organization is entirely different between OS 8.6 and 9.1; What you need to do, if possible, is to restore the 8.6 installation from a backup, install a "clean" version of 9.1, which saves your old System Folder, and then selectively migrate what you need from the old version to the new. In other words, there is no need for an incremental upgrade, but there is a need to archive and restore when migrating from any version of OS 8.x to OS 9.x. HTH, paul -- Paul F.
