I looked at both the Sonnet Tempo and the SIIG Ultra ATA/133 cards, and eventually opted for the Sonnet card because I could get it locally (have had negative experiences with the cost and hassle of returning items under warranty purchased on-line, particularly as I live in Canada). In retrospect, I wish I had gone for the SIIG. After the fact, I found out that the Sonnet ATA/133 card (with the Promise chipset) has the "boot system must be on the first 8GB or less partition" problem. Also, I have been unable to get my Pioneer A05 DVD-RW to work with it in OS9, although I did manage to "trick" things to work in OSX. The SIIG is less expensive, has a 5 year warranty (rather than the 3 year ATA) and apparently doesn't have the "first 8GB" problem. The Sonnet card does work in the lower slots (mine is in slot #4) and seem to recall that the SIIG does as well (from other reports on this list). -- Gregg -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
