Hi All,

My C600/240 has just started misbehaving and I am hoping to hear from
our learned fellow members, in the hope of solving this problem.

Since I have acquired the C600 to replace my deceased C500, it had been
running very well, even on a "mule" hard drive from a 5400 of 1.2GB for
software installation testing purposes. The two pieces of 64MB FPM RAM
and the Matrox Millennium II card were inherited from my 6360 which had
been a paragon of reliability (which has since found a new home),
After putting the C600 aside for a week as I attended to other
businesses, when I boot up from cold it freezes at the "Welcome to
MacOS" splash screen at 640X480, displaying the bomb alert panel saying
that it has a bus error, and recommends me to restart with extensions
off, and it starts up successfully sometimes after another restart.
Sometimes the bomb alert is stuck when still blank, and occasionally the
blank bomb alert even pops up when the monitor has been switched to
1024X768, meaning that the Matrox extensions had already been loaded.
I am feeling very apprehensive, because symtoms like that also preceded
the demise of my C500.

Would anyone be able to point me at the right direction?

Thank you so much.

Sam.

The C500/600 rarely work with FPM RAM. In theory they should be able to but in fact seem to require EDO RAM 2 page and not 4 page versions(the J700/S900 work fine with either RAM types). When you start up cold the machine does a memory check. When you restart the memory check is bypassed. So my first guess is the RAM is causing the bus error. I believe the C600 like the C500 comes with motherboard Video of 1 mb. In the USA the Matrox card was included with the high end C600 models only. So you should have built in video for testing. Several people have mentioned the Matrox Millenium card you are using but it's was never sold for Macs in the USA. Also the extensions needed to use it are hard to come by at least here. best of luck Will S
