Dispite all reports of successful installation and running of 9.2, I stuck with 9.1 after deciding X will be learned and experienced on a new Apple, leapfrogging 9.2.
For straight install and stability, 9.1 is as good as it gets for our aging Supermacs.
As for the hours spent on the s900 over the years during every OS update and hardware/software upgrades, the return on effort expended was beginning to spiral downwards in the last year or so.
Now that I have two newer Macs with Classic support as well as one machine that is dual bootable, I don't see much difference in 9.2 and 9.1 (in practical terms only in my situation) and glad I didn't spend the time attempting to load 9.2 or X on the s900.
It finally became necessary for me to go to X and a much faster machine (for Adobe Creative Suties and several other X only apps.) and it was a leap from 9.1 directly to Panther.
Anyhow, this is how I approached my transition and weaning from the s900 running a mature/stable version of OS 9 to a fairly well established version of X.
The s900 is now a film scanning station.
Files are sneaker-netted via a external firewire drive.
There is plenty of life left in it at a minimum as an internet appliance and for word processing on (long live) Word Perfect.
