OK gang, to play it straight for a moment--

We moved from MI to NJ in early June. The Supermac was running 24/7 with OS 9.1as my wife's main machine. Took it down politely and boxed it up and I pulled it out just over a week ago and started setting it up. Had all the appropriate cables where they were supposed to be and hit the power button. Got the blinking ?. Started pushing the CUDA. No change.

So I thought I'll unplug everything and maybe get a bong (no, not *that* bong!) but still nothing. Probably a dead battery. Searched and found OWC had cheap 4.5v units. Got the new battery, put it in, and everything is still dead. Front panel power button lights up and the fan spins but no video, no bong, no drives spin up. I'm thinking either the mobo is toast or at least the PS isn't up to snuff. I'm not intending to put any more money into this so I'm cannabalising the drives and maybe the 64 MB RAM sticks. There is also a Newer G3 400 L2 upgrade. So that's about it for the Supermac that I bought from Small Dog in 8/97. A good machine that hung tough and taught me loads about how to maintain and upgrade machines. And you guys, too, this list--gave me skill that got me employed in more than one job. That's a debt I can't ever begin to express my gratitude nor ever repay. I've been on a G4 for over a year but it's here I know that I can get any number of polite responses to questions and, in turn, try to give somebody else a hand. This place has represented to me anyway what the cult of the Mac is supposed to be about. Gurus, newbies, general users--it never mattered because we're all Mac users.

So, in the end of this, I'm not heading off. I have noticed the traffic here is much less than it was recently but even though the machine is mostly hosed, I'm still hanging around.

Pax,

Pastor Mac
On OS X
