Searched and found OWC had cheap 4.5v units. Got the new battery, put it in, and everything is still dead.

I love the folks at OWC and have probably spent more money there than I like to think about. But, I did get a nearly dead battery from them. We ordered three batteries, a square one for the UMAX and two rounds ones for the 9600 and 8500. (square & round - don't you just love the technical terms, but I am too lazy to look up the description of the round ones) Anyway, one of them was nearly flat, and would not boot the system. If you have a voltage meeter, test the battery you bought. Otherwise, I would at least try another new battery.
