[SM] s900 ethernet

I have a s900 upgraded to G3 267mhz.  I am having trouble connecting 
anything via the ethernet plug in.  I am trying to connect a IBook G3 
to it.  Was wondering if there is something missing on the s900?
I have both a ethernet patch cord and crossover cord. Does not appear 
to make a difference which cord I use.  It is almost like the ethernet 
on S900 is not working.
Any help appreciated.
