Hello, and thanks a lot you for the input on this so far. Removing the software Amazing Slow Downer didn't do it, as well as trying to connect the audio out of the Mac CD ROM drive to the Umax motherboard: the cable is still there, but the CD drive has a 4 pin out while the plug of the cable wants to see 3 pins :-)
