I guess I qualify too, even if I'm only 60. I built a tube H.H. Scott amp/preamp and tuner, then 3 years later the solid state Heathkit AR15 Receiver before graduating H.S. Our main TV is a 1982 Sony 17" so we've due for some major electronic upgrades.

We recently set a Sony 17" out on the curb at my folks' house - trying to remember the occasion we bought it for them eons ago.

Assembled Dynaco in high school - two each of Stereo 120 and PAT-4.
A FM-5 tuner that is still in use.
A pair of legendary A-25 speakers that sound good as new and continues to get good reviews.
And then there is the Quardrapter (a David Hafler design) that kept overheating for some reason.
To this day I wish for a Stereo 400.

I remember H.H. Scott, a premier brand in those days.
Crown was another name.
Revox, later Studor-Revox.

Most of these I mention, if I'm not mistaken, are not Japanese.
Crown, maybe ?
