It turns out the computer I was working on was a G4, not a G5. So earlier today I did a trial run on a "real" G5/1.6GHz machine. It encoded a 90 minute Quicktime DV movie into an MPEG-2 format in just over an hour, something that would take my S900/G4/400MHz unit at least 12-14 hours to process ... now that is a <SERIOUS> speed increase!! This was reading and writing from/to the same FW hard drive.
