Merely restating your assertion that HFS cannot read HFS+ does not really
answer my question. The question was: how would I recognize that? What would
happen? What exactly do you mean "it cannot read"?

The best way to demonstrate this would be to describe an action I could take
involving data interchange between the two that would fail, so I could
experience the failure.

My own example now seems inadequate to me. If I installed OS9 and Photoshop
on my HFS volume then dragged Photoshop to an HFS+ volume, and then I used
Photoshop from my HFS volume on files it created that are stored in another
HFS+ volume, it is conceivable that all of these remain HFS files because
the Photoshop app was originally installed in the HFS volume, even though it
now sits (the app folder) in an HFS+ volume. Or?

So how about this: I just took a screenshot in an HFS+ volume using
Simpletext and OS9 that were installed into that HFS+ volume. I dragged it
into my HFS OS9 volume folder. I rebooted to that HFS volume. I then opened
my in-HFS-created Simpletext app and Chose File/Open/and the screenshot I
had just created in the HFS+ volume. It opened just fine and I saw the HFS+
data in my HFS volume, using my HFS OS and HFS app.

Does this not constitute data interchange from HFS+ to HFS?

If not, please design an experiment with normal data (not audio or video)
that will show me what cannot be done.

Thanks,
Michael M
