That is a 13w3 connector. Common on high end workstation monitors (Sgi, Sun, NeXT). The serial port is probably for some kind of test set or color matching control. Sounds like a prepress monitor of some sort. There are 13w3 to D15 cables around.
If you're not careful, you can end up paying a bundle for the adapter cable. That cable used to command a high premium. Yet, at the same time, they were available in the cable bin at GoodWill Computer Works for $5. Unfortunately, GW CW no longer has user accessible bins here in Austin. Grrrr. Took all the fun out of going there.
Anyway, the point is, look around a bit. You *can* pay a lot for one, but they are also available here and there for under $10, usually.
