Hi, It wasn't really clear how I should go about asking my question or join a list, so here goes:
I have a J700 with 250Mb RAM and a bad internal hard drive; I have an external 270Mb hard drive which I've initialized with Mac OS standard format. I'd like to install 8.1 on it and use it as my boot drive for the J700. I have a G3 Powerbook with its Mac OS8.1 CD. I used the CD to successfully boot the J700 and the external drive shows on the desktop. When I then try to launch the OS instlaller, I'm told that "This program cannot run on your computer - see the documentation" I read all i could and tried to search for a solution without success.
