First off, I suggest trying CPU Director INIT 2.0b1, but with CPU Director
1.5f6. CPU Director 2.1 just doesn't work!

More generally, almost any manufacturer's G3 card software will work with any
of theother G3 cards when it comes to:

1) finding out the CPU speed;

2) finding out and changing the backside bus speed, or disabling it entirely;

3) turning on the backside cache at startup.

I actually am using a MAXpower G3/500/1M card in a PTP with both MAXpowr
Control (v. 2.0.5) and CPU Director INIT 2.0b1 active at the same time with no
problems!

To view and (sometimes) change various settings, you can play around with
Sonnet's Metronome and NewerTech's Gauge PRO 1.1, both of which are read-only,
as well as the items mentioned above. There's also PowerLogix' G3/G4 Cache
Profiler 1.5, which is a predecessor of CPU Director but does some things the
latter doesn't do. (You might even try the G3/G4 Cache Profiler INIT!)

If the problem is, as was suggested, a problem with the backside cache, it
should be easy to find out by first starting out with one of the INITs
installed and using one of the programs mentioned todisable the backside cache
at startup. If it doesn't then crash on startup, but does so when you enable
the backside cache on startup, then you will have a good idea that that's the
problem. You can also try different settings for the backside bus speed, make
sure "speculative access" is turned off, and try with "write-through" on and
off.

Good luck!
