As part of trying to get USB 2 to work with external CD and DVD drives on my
S900, I tried to reinstall Panther with the new ADS Tech USB Turbo 2.0 card
installed, to try to be sure of geting right drivers. (Will, I couldn't find an
option to just install just those files.)

Either from something I'm doing wrong, or from some quirk in my system, I've
always had to install new versions of OS X onto an empty disk, so at least I
have everything backed up!

But, the last thing I saw at the end of the installation, was "Installation
Successful," or something to that effect. When I tried to restart, using
XPostFacto, it went into a "rebuilding desktop" screen, just like in the old
days, and since then I can't get it to boot at all - not even from OS 9.1, on a
separate disk, which I've always been able to get to by holding down Option
during startup. I get a chime, a little glow on the monitor and a few blinks of
its Analog/Digital screen, as if it's receiving something from the system, a
little disk noise, then nothing.

I've tried:

Removing the Sonnet G4 card, pressing the CUDA switch, and replacing the card;

Reinstalling the original UMAX processor card;

Trying to start up from the UMAX system CD, with the original processor;

Trying to start up with the Sonnet card and their Restore PRAM floppy.

Same results everytime.

I want a new computer, but not this way! Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

Many thanks,
Eric
