I could not find full specs for the 5Mpix sensor.
But that sounds to me it could be possible but with (much) lower framerates?

That mode does not work nicely with the 5MPix sensor - it was designed
for the 3MPix one. That sensor was able to output 2 lines (minimal for
the color image) with only 4 blank lines, so frame period is only 6
lines ( http://www.elphel.com/3fhlo/samples/pf/ ). I do not have the
5MPix data with me, but the minimal vertical blanking is much higher.
As for the code - I tried not to destroy it when upgrading FPGA and
drivers code, it is still in the camera, but can unfortunately be
"rotten" as it was not used for quite some time.
