If I've gone on to another page, the page I was on can no longer be rendered. WHY continue to download packets for that previous page?

The other page could be a PDF document which gets fully downloaded then passed on to a helper application automatically. In this scenario the current page should not (and currently it does not) stop working, while the other page gets loaded. I guess "stopping" of the current page happens when there's enough evidence the other page is something which will replace the current one.
