Hum, I have no such problem. I can't even remember the last time that happened. Then again, 1.1.16 dates from what? two or three years ago? Upgrading might solve some of your SM troubles.
And as someone else said, SM is standards compliant. If webmasters can't design standards compliant page, it's certainly not SM's fault.
