You know what detach does now (would've been easy enough to try on a
test email), as an FYI when you delete an attachment, the original email
will show that an attachment was deleted by you. Example:

Deleted: abiword1.odt

You deleted an attachment from this message. The original MIME headers
for the attachment were:
Content-Type: application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text;
 name="abiword1.odt"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-Disposition: attachment;
 filename="abiword1.odt"

That way, later on you won't think that SeaMonkey borked your attachement.
