afaik, there is no way to "filter" for messages with attachments.
Tools/Search Messages, "Attachment Status" in the drop-down.

the extract actions seem to work like expected. Once extracted the
message still seems to 'hang on' to it's attachment, not replacing it
with a reference path lieu of the bulky klingon
