Solved! After some searching I closed SeaMonkey, trashed the Inbox.msf
file and restarted. Everything's now fine.

Geoff, are you aware that by having your mail split into sub-files under
the inbox, you are increasing the size of your inbox?? And risking the lot??
A better idea might be to shift your sub-files out of the inbox box by
making yourself several folders at the same level as the inbox.
