<rant> Why send the page at all??? Why not just send the link??

Ever thought of ... because maybe you want to make sure you have
captured the information in the e-mail message (perhaps one to
yourself), in case the page changes?

O.K., I'll grant you that maybe, just maybe, a news story that is
of particular interest may get dropped from the main page, but it
is then usually available via a link.

It's a heck of a lot more than just the "maybe, just maybe" case of a
news story or something on a main page. Even plenty of open-source
projects don't seem to understand the need to keep, say,
documentation for non-current versions of software accessible.

So you're now wanting to sent, not a web page but, a
document....different case, Daniel, different case!!

NO, it is NOT a different case. Why do you think it is?

If I could generalise, web pages are on the web, were as documents are not, usually.

(Whether it's something the you would consider "just" a web page with
some desired information in it, or something that you would consider a
"document" on the web with some desired information in it, one might
want to capture a copy to be sure to be able to get to that information
again.)

(And since when is a web page not a kind of document?)

Yes, you are right, in the purest deffination, a web page is a document, a specific type of document, specifically meant to be displayed, not in a PDF reader, not in a Word-processor program, but in a Browser.

However, in general, technically enabled, society, a web page is not referred to as a document and if you were to ask a random sample of web viewers if they were looking at documents on web sites, I'm sure a large proportion would answer "No" (no facts to back this up.).

And as for saving web pages, yes, I have done that, usually so that I can pinch a picture, but cannot recall the last time I've needed to send a complete web page to anyone (I know, I know, just because I've never needed it, doesn't mean others may not have a need......!).
