It doesn't happen during "opening" but happens because sm fails to fully
shut down on exit...
If there's a sm instance still running in task manager, then, when sm is
restarted, a second instance is started.
Seems to take a while before this happens, but, once it does, every
session ended thereafter remains open.

Doesn't seem to be version specific... I've encountered in in all 1.x
versions and mozilla suite bs (before seamonkey) Think it's also been
reported in 2.x as well but not positive about that.
