Yep, that is the workaround I use too.
I have seen in the help file of google maps that it is not intended to
print the satellite image, one should use google earth instead, I
tried it and got fine prints of satellite image.
Have you found some way in Google Earth to get more than a 1024 x 1180
pixel image? That's the best I've found in Google Earth; not quite as
good as I can grab from Google Maps using a screenshot of my big
monitors.
my opinion is that the definition is not the point but the quality of
the satellite image at high zoom level
nevertheless I got what I wanted on A4 print
I am not sure a print screen really do better, you display a poor data
