Hi,

I'm having a great deal of trouble with one netbook that will not send
e-mails. A computer expert has asked me the above question, which I
cannot answer. I guess that his idea is to export the settings from my
"good" computer to the "bad" computer in an attempt to correct the
problem.

Does anyone know if this is possible, and how to do it?

There are several ways to skin this cat. Have a look at
<http://kb.mozillazine.org/Importing_and_exporting_your_mail> for some ideas.

No, the OP asked about migrating /settings/, this is only about migrating /messages and folders/.

Three broad categories of things to look at:

1) Server settings on the two computers. If these are the same, great; if not, they may be the source of your problem. Resolve discrepancies in favor of the computer that's working. Be very picky here -- computers know the difference between @att.net and @worldnet.att.net, for example, even if humans think they're the same.

2) Passwords on the two computers. If the problem computer is using a bad password or username, the server will refuse to authenticate and you won't be able to send (or receive, as the case may be). For sending issues, you're interested in the "Outgoing server (SMTP)" settings at the bottom of the list of accounts. Here, too, resolve discrepancies in favor of the computer that's working.

3) ISP issues -- some ISPs are particular about whose SMTP server you use to send. If the working computer connects through one ISP and the trouble computer connects through a different one, then exactly the same settings and passwords may not work.

If you get any error messages, post them here and the experts will find it much easier to help you. In general, the more specific you can be about what "a great deal of trouble" means, the better results you will get.
