In a recent thread ("Windows 7 crashes") the comment was made that

User-agent will let SM pretend to be "Firefox/3.6" and soon all Comcast
users will have to do that!

My PrefBar only lists some very old browsers: Moz 1.7.13 Lin, NS 4.7
Mac, NS 6.2 Lin, IE 6.0 WinXP, SM 1.0.8 Lin, FF 2.0.0.2 Lin, and Lynx.
I'm running SM 2.0.14, and when I click on "find updates" for PrefBar,
I'm told "No updates were found."

So, how can I get User-agent to spoof more recent versions of browsers?

You have to customize it:

Right mouse click on the UA window and select Customize Prefbar.

On the Enabled Items list, right mouse click on User Agent and select Edit.

It should default to the Common tab and then you can see the Label and Value.

If you click on the + button, you can add a new Label and Value.

One of my new Labels is "IE8 on Windows 7". Paste that into the Label, without the " " marks.

For that label, the Value is " Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; InfoPath.2; .NET4.0C; .NET4.0E; FDM)"

I got that value from someone on this newsgroup so I don't know why it is so long. You have to paste it in, line by line, without the " " marks. I don't know why you have to paste it in line by line. But that is the only way it worked for me.

Once you're done, click on OK.

You can check the UA by using Pref Bar to change it and then click on Help, About SeaMonkey, and the Build Identifier should show your custom Value.

Maybe someone else will come along with a shorter Value for a different Label.
