One feature of the Multizilla mega-extension I liked was the ability to
have the "X" and the site icon in the same space: it normally looked
like the site icon, but if you hovered the mouse over it it turned into
the "X." It saved a lot of space on the tab bar.

Yes, some users might prefer to remove the icon entirely, leaving only
text. That's their choice. But I think that the x-when-hover is a nice
middle ground.

(Chrome went the other way, keeping the X but removing the site icon...
it's one of the things I don't like on it.)
