Hello, Whenever I first delete an unwanted email from my
SeaMonkey Inbox a popup asked if I now want to compact the
deletion. Have always closed/cancelled this box until today. This
time I hit the OK by mistake and ZAP, my entire Inbox was emptied
!! Can it's contents be recovered? If not, I suggest there be a
second click required to compact/destroy the entire contents, (not
the single message), of whatever folder the targeted deletion
resides in. BTW, nowhere is it mentioned/hinted-at
that 'compact' means erase everything !!
I don't know what happened in your case, but 'compacting' does NOT
mean deleting -- compactly merely rewrites the file containing your
messages to eliminate wasted space in the file.
Could you have received about message about DELETING your inbox, and
you clicked yes, thinking it was asking about compacting? I often get
a message asking to confirm deletion of an entire folder when I'm
just trying to delete a single message (I guess that folder must have
been selected inadvertently to cause that behavior).
In that case, the old Inbox should be in the Trash until you empty the
trash. You can't restore it because SM automatically creates a new
Inbox, but you should be able to drag and drop messages from one to the
other.
