There's a little icon in the lower right-hand corner of various
SeaMonkey windows (at least in the mac version) - if you click on it, it
gives you options for going on/off-line. Perhaps you clicked on it
inadvertently and took yourself into offline mode? In any case, clicking
on it should allow you to go back to online mode, which should change
SEND LATER back to SEND.

Could you have a hidden or other instance of SM running or could the popup window
that asks if you want to download be hidden?
Close all but the 'compose' window and see if the problem can be repeated - will
online of course.
