OK, I just "canceled" the message to which you replied. Is it
really gone, or just hidden from me?

Yes

That has to be one of the all-time most useless answers in the history of
mankind. Thank you very much, Mr. Wise Guy.

Does it adequately display my frustration, that you didn't do any
research? I did mention this has been discussed before. No?

Applies to SM also.

I didn't count this because it's equally irrelevant to my question and the OP's question. The procedure described there isn't about removing the message from the server, it's about hiding it on my computer so I have the illusion it's gone. I already know how to do that, and it doesn't help me to pretend other people aren't reading my mistake and laughing at it. I'd rather they didn't read it.

Do I really need to explain the question over and over and over? Do you really not get it? Are you really having fun yanking my chain?

For anyone else who's following, let's rephrase my question this way:
can you still see the canceled message even though I can't?

If I have already downloaded the headers, yes I will still see the message.

IIRC news.mozilla.org doesn't honor cancel message requests.

The Del key used to work, but not anymore. SM doesn't even squawk about an invalid keypress, it just sits there in silence ignoring me. In earlier versions, I would get prompted either (in case of someone else's message) that I wasn't entitled to delete the message or (in case of my own message) that I needed to confirm the deletion. There's nothing at all in the context menu anymore.

For spam, marking as read is as much effort as I'm willing to invest, since, I normally navigate from message to message by choosing next/previous unread message. Once in a while, I see that someone has already deleted it when I get the error message about there being no such message (thanks to whoever's doing this!).

For my own mistakes, I really wish I could take them off the server so no more people see them. But people in a position to know seem to be saying this is not possible.
