............... Are you really having fun yanking my chain?

Well after the first several replies to the OP, the thread has
become a humerous source of amusement.

The Del key used to work, but not anymore. SM doesn't even squawk about
an invalid keypress, it just sits there in silence ignoring me. In
earlier versions, I would get prompted either (in case of someone else's
message) that I wasn't entitled to delete the message or (in case of my
own message) that I needed to confirm the deletion. There's nothing at
all in the context menu anymore.

An unpublicized attempt at an improvement.

For spam, marking as read is as much effort as I'm willing to invest,
since, I normally navigate from message to message by choosing
next/previous unread message. Once in a while, I see that someone has
already deleted it when I get the error message about there being no
such message (thanks to whoever's doing this!).

Attn. Illias! See it's probably you getting some praise.

For my own mistakes, I really wish I could take them off the server so
no more people see them. But people in a position to know seem to be
saying this is not possible.

You can't get it killed/expunged off the Internet. :-)
But perhaps for groups to which Chris Illias has the proper authority
(keys on his ring), you could beg him to delete your message so that
it's off that server.
