Firefox 10, and Thunderbird 10 are in my repository, but SeaMonkey
still shows 2.6.1.
Could I ask for a translation of this into non-geek-speak ? In what
context would one "use a repository", and what is one's "distro" ?
Those are Linux terms, which is what David is using, and WLS correctly
interpreted from David's post. David, WLS, and I are all using Linux.
A repository is, in its normal definition, a storehouse - in this case
of applications and utilities for the Linux distribution (distro for
short) that it is connected to.
In Ubuntu for example, the repository is known as the Synaptic Package
Manager. There are probably 30,000 software items in it and avaliable
for the simple click-to-download-and-install.
See http://distrowatch.com/ for further info.
As far as I am aware, I have and use neither. I downloaded Seamonkey
from http://www.seamonkey-project.org/, as I imagine most of us have
(why on earth would one choose to download it from anything other
than the authoritative source, and thereby risk infection or worse
?), so is http://www.seamonkey-project.org/ either my "repository" or
my "distro" ?
You are using Windows XP (Windows 5.1) and since Windows has no
repositories you should continue to get your versions from the SeaMonkey
site you have identified.
