One thing SeaMonkey checks for in the background is updates to SeaMonkey. I'm not sure if this is the only reason SeaMonkey may be connecting to servers in the background.

You can, if you want, turn off SeaMonkey's ability to check for software updates for Add-ons and SeaMonkey updates. and see if SeaMonkey still contacts servers in the background. To do this go to Preferences in the menu bar and click on "Advanced->Software Installation" and uncheck all the items.

Does SM check servers in the background without informing the user?

Under SM 2.0.14 Mac I get asked for my Master Password on a seemingly
random interval into the session even though I have the Preference set
to ask only the first time it is required. This used to work just fine
up until about SM 1.1.14 or 1.1.16 or thereabouts, as I recall.

SM 2.6.1 Mac is doing the same thing, and I had sort of expected it not
to - i.e.; to do as I select. Doesn't matter if I never open Mail/News
or never navigate to a page that requires a password - at sometime into
the session it will ask for my Master.

Under 2.0.14 when this happens during a download SM freezes and a Force
Quit and relaunch are required to get going again - thus losing any
information from the previous session, and the download. I expect the
same for 2.6.1, but I haven't been using 2.6.1 long enough to see this
occur yet.

I thought I had written a bug on this before, but search shows I
haven't. Is SM doing something required in the background that I'm
unaware of? If so I won't write a formal bug.

BTW - I've done a virus scans of my systems and I'm clean on all of them.
