Okay. I'm going to try to be as nice and calm as I can.

In previous posts we've exchanged messages about SM hanging ...
consuming every last CPU bit, etc.

I just did a total re-install of Windows 7 Pro.

The first time I fired up SM mail? It took over the CPU and the
system.

Others have commented with similar issues.

I've been using this product and its ancestors since around 1994. I'm
a loyal user. And I'm going to have to go find another solution
because this one, much as I like it, is broken... as is Thunderbird.
It's something in the mail/news component of the products. I have the
same issue when trying a Firefox and Tbird combo ... if it worked I
would have (grudgingly ) moved to that. No

*!@&*!@#

The system just locked up for 20 seconds while I'm typing this!!!
Screw this. Been going on for about a year and a half. I'm done.

By the way, it's not just locking up SM, it's locking up my whole
system.

I cannot abide this. Oh, God!!! I may have to invoke ... oh, please
no ... OUTLOOK!

Cripes. I'm gonna go have a drink. I dunno what to do.

Could it have anything to do with your Anti Virus? I know if my
Kaspersky is doing anything and I try to use the mail it locks up. Just
a thought.

Thanks, no, tested, not an issue. Cripes. Just locked up for about 25
seconds while typing this reply.

Start up Windows in 'Safe Mode with Networking' and then run Seamonkey
and see what happens.

Once I get my re-install of W7 sorted out I will do that. Thanks for the suggestion.

However, I doubt that's the answer (although ('m more than willing to be surprised!). With SM NOT running at all I do not have this issue on the system. Nothing else hangs. Only SM and only when Mail/News is running. And also when Thunderbird is running and nothing else. It's something in the Mail/News core. As I mentioned before I was considering moving to Firefox and Thunderbird and quitting SM. So I tested it. As soon as I ran TB the problem arose.

And, somtimes, it hangs the whole system. Can't toggle windows, click on the Taskbar, etc. Sometimes the SM windows (all of them) will either grey out or go totally blank for 5, 10, 15 seconds or more, their title bars say a Windows message of "SeaMonkey is not responding", but eventually their video refreshes (like now!!!) and the windows are back to normal. and I can hear the PC fans ramp up and go wild as the CPU usage skyrockets.

Almost seems like an interaction between my video card/drivers and SM. But I've been using this same card and drive since I upgraded to W7 in October '09. Just started this nonsense about 18 months ago. And it's getting worse.

However, as I've said, no other apps cause anything like this on this system. Nor no other combination of apps. And it isn't happening on any of my other three systems in the house.

This is maddening!

BTW, I just clicked "Send" on this. The fans in my PC went nuts, SM froze. I opened Task Manager and SM CPU usage was crazy. It's settle down now, allowing me to type this.
