Using SeaMonkey version 2.15.2
For the last couple of days I'm getting a panel with the following message when
trying to access certain pages at several different financial institutions:
*****************************
This Connection is Untrusted
You have asked SeaMonkey to connect
securely to brokerage.ameriprise.com, but we can't confirm that your connection
is secure.
Normally, when you try to connect securely,
websites will present trusted identification to prove that you are
going to the right place. However, this website's identity can't be verified.
(more verbage follows)
****************************
Clicking on the "technical Details" gets:
"brokerage.ameriprise.com uses an invalid security certificate.
***************************
Clicking on "I understand the risks" does nothing but flip the triangle.
This DOES NOT happen at all if I use Internet explorer to go to the same
locations.
And, if I click on "I understand the risks", nothing else appears, and I'm stuck
there.
**************************
How do I stop this?
Thanks guys,
Jeff
Have you recently upgraded your JAVA?
Go to Windows Control Panel - select Programs - select Java32 - select Security
Move the slider down and see what happens to those sites.
I'm using Win XP and I don't see "Programs" in the Control Panel, only
the expected "Add and Remove Programs" and if I look there just for S&Gs
there's no listing for JAVA there.
(There is a JAVA folder under C:/Program Files.)
But the problem itself seems to have gone away now, I didn't get any of
those messages today.
(Things that go away by themselves usually come back by themselves.)
