That was what he wanted!  Reset about:config to defaults.

It is drastic what he wants to accomplish.
I agree he probably did not realize that mail accounts are part of
about:config customization, and that they are lost when reset to 
defaults.

It is possible to write a small program that removes everything from
prefs.js except the mail.account mail.identity and mail.server
entries, and it will then reset everything to default but keep the
accounts.
