I finally tried to update to 2.17, but the download won't run at all.
I'm running Xubuntu 12.04 on a Dell T5500 with 2 quad-core Xeons and
10GB of memory, (currently) using Seamonkey 2.11, which works fine.
32-bit or 64-bit Xubuntu 12.04?
Downloaded file: seamonkey-2.17.1.tar.bz2
This is the 32-bit SeaMonkey.
A 64-bit contributed build can be downloaded from here.

I untarred this into /opt/seamonkey and tried to run it:
$ /opt/seamonkey/seamonkey
bash: /opt/seamonkey/seamonkey: No such file or directory
The correct command is /opt/seamonkey/./seamonkey
