First of all, you want about:config, not auto:config. Set network.protocol-handler.external.mailto to true. If you are using Windows, you also need to open the Control Panel window, launch Internet Options, and select the Programs tab. There, use the pull-down selection list for E-mail to select your preferred E-mail application. Then select the OK button. (I know this works for Windows XP SP3; I don't know about other Windows versions. I certainly do not know about other operating systems.) -- David E.
